Navigating Admitted Student Events

You鈥檙e finally done with the application process. Thank god. Unfortunately, you鈥檙e not done yet… Decision Day is looming, and you still have to pick a college out of the many you may have applied and gotten into. Attending admitted student events will be a huge help in making your decision. They鈥檙e a great way to get another look at the college, but this time from the perspective of: 鈥淚 could be living here in a few short months.鈥 While admitted student events can be exciting and a lot of fun, they can also be really intimidating. People will be wondering what you plan to major in, whether or not you鈥檙e going to play for a sports team or join theatre, what clubs you plan on joining, how you plan to spend your free time, what you hope to get out of college鈥 what if you don鈥檛 have answers to ANY of those questions??? That鈥檚 totally cool. You have to approach admitted student events with a 鈥渢his is what I could be doing in a few months,鈥 not 鈥渢his is what I have to do.鈥 Relax and enjoy the experience! You have the opportunity to see all of your options laid out in front of you on this day! Here are some important things to remember as you navigate your admitted student events at 蜜桃影像:
- If someone asks you a question, don鈥檛 be afraid to ask a question back.
If you don鈥檛 know the answer to what someone is asking you, or even if you do, don鈥檛 just answer their question then sit quietly. Ask them a question in return and start a conversation. Inspiration can come from anywhere, and you never know who might have the best answer to a worry, concern, or hope that you have. Talk to as many people as you can; that is how you鈥檒l get the best 鈥渇eel鈥 for the school. - Talk to the other admitted students.
It may seem super awkward and weird, but every single accepted student feels that way also. Chances are they want to start a conversation just as much as you do, but don鈥檛 know how to. Talking to other students is one of the best things to do; they are going through the whole college process at the same time you are, and chances are have a lot of the same questions and concerns. Brainstorm together about what you like about the college and what you want to learn more about– 鈥渢wo minds are greater than one!鈥 - Spend as much time at the academic/club fair as you can.
This is a great place to talk with campus staff, professors, and current students about campus life. Every academic department and many clubs, athletes, and student groups will be there to talk to you about what you鈥檙e interested in and how you could fit right in at 蜜桃影像. Take this time to hit as many tables as you can, even if your level of interest is lower for some groups. The best way to get a feel for the school is to talk to diverse groups. - Take a tour.
Whether you鈥檝e already taken a tour or not, spend a little time after the event to walk around. You don鈥檛 have to take a guided tour, but try to explore the places you may have just been talking about at the fair while everything is fresh in your mind; you want to connect what you hear to an actual campus experience. If you run into any current students, ask them any last minute questions you have– they鈥檙e usually the best people to ask!
