Fueling Student Success: The Ignite Fellowship

Internships can be a game-changer for undergraduate students at 蜜桃影像, offering hands-on, practical, and transformative experiences that set them up for future success. However, the financial burden鈥攃overing housing, food, and the inability to work a paying job鈥攃an sometimes make these opportunities feel out of reach. That鈥檚 where the Ignite Fellowship comes in. By providing scholarships to offset these costs, the program ensures students can fully immerse themselves in their internships, focusing on the incredible outcomes instead of the financial stress.

“I was fortunate enough to have an incredible internship experience, that provided me with a great education and helped me embrace who I am and where I come from. I would not have had this much comfort in my first professional workplace without the help of the Ignite Fellowship.” Sean ’27

Sean majors in Finance & Risk Management and Insurance.聽He interned across three key departments at Haylor, Freyer & Coon Insurance Agency (Commercial, Personal, and Employee Benefits) where he organized, researched, and prepared accounts for seamless transitions to the next team member.

Like Sean, Angelina ’27, an Environmental Science major, made an impact during her internship at the Wilton Wildlife Preserve. Her work focused on public outreach and youth education programs. 鈥淭he biggest lesson I learned was the importance of community involvement. I met so many amazing people through this experience. With the Ignite Fellowship’s support, I was able to deepen my passion over the summer and gain clarity about my future goals.鈥

Moving from the outdoors to the lab, Shannon ’25, a biology major, interned with Dr. Siavash Amon. She had the opportunity research how isolated bacteria from the gut microbiome impact ALS symptoms and lifespan in C. elegans. “The biggest lesson I took home was that science takes time. Where I wanted to be by the end of the summer was completely different than where I was, for reasons outside my control. The important part is to not get discouraged and keep working towards your goal.”

Building on the shared theme of independence, teamwork and professionalism, Elisa ’25, a physics major, interned with the NYSDOT. She helped out supervisors on projects and collaborated with other interns. “To me, the support from the fellowship meant being able to enjoy the internship without having to worry about the financial responsibilities living away from home. It was an amazing and unforgettable experience.”

Finally, Allyson ’26, a communications major, interned with CNY Arts, supporting event planning and promotion, analyzing data, preparing reports and identifying solutions to support the organization’s staff.聽 “The biggest lesson I learned is that there are countless opportunities and things to be done for a non-profit. I also realized it鈥檚 just as important to discover what you don鈥檛 enjoy doing as it is to find what you love.” Our students’ experience shows the transformative power of the Ignite Fellowship, helping our students to pursue their passions without limits.
